BUS TRIP 2 – 30 hours from hell… oh it wasn’t that bad.

So how was a 30 hour long bus ride you say???

It was fine!! You get food on the bus… and let’s just say it’s no airline food… Which means it’s pretty terrible. But that’s okay, they tried right?? Who gets food on a bus???

The first couple of hours on the bus were spectacular! Again we were driving in between snow-capped mountains, over rivers and streams, past gorgeous wooden farm houses and in some sections trees and ground covered in a thin layer of snow so everything was JUST white… We took a lot of snaps which aren’t that great because we were on a bus… but it was great to see the country side…

After a little while longer it gets really flat, really barren and very dessert like… But in reverse… it was either frosted or slightly snowed. So it was all white… Think the Nullabour… but white. Not that I’ve been there, but I imagine that’s what it was like…

30 Hour Bus Trip from Bariloche to El Calafate
Some sites and scenery along the way…

So that’s when they start playing the movies… First up we had Quantum Solace (woo hoo James Bond!) and it went downhill from there. There are kids on the bus, and they DON’T care about the rating of the movies they play!! It’s pretty crazy there was nudity, violence and everything else… So there were about 5 movies played and we only watched a couple… just because they weren’t that great! So I guess that’s a down side of being on a bus!

But again, it wasn’t that bad the time seemed to pass really quickly, SURPRISINGLY we slept well on the bus overnight. At one point we both kept waking up because you could feel the wind smashing the bus and the bus driver constantly correcting where the wind was trying to make the bus go (most likely off a ledge or cliff or something but the curtains were closed so what we don’t know can’t worry us!! :-s) So that was interesting! But soon enough the sun was up (have I mentioned it doesn’t come up until 9AM here????? Imagine trying to get up for work in the morning!) and not much longer and we were in El Calafate!!!

We were the only people on the bus for that long. Passengers were coming and going, all the while we had our little spot up the back… But that was that! It’s one of MANY MANY bus trips we’ll be experiencing in South America! 
