We arrived at our hostel in El Calafate and Matt booked a trip to a glacier straight away. We walked around the main town, it’s pretty quiet here as it’s winter time. Usually there’d be snow everywhere but like everywhere else we’ve been, it’s a warmer winter than usual so there’s no good snow. But the cool thing is that everything is iced over… A little puddle in the street, ICE… the gutters in the street, ICE, the tiny swamp near the river, ICE…
So we walked around and found some food because we were starving for good food after the bus trip. We were slightly bummed but the fact that we’d come South SO FAR (30 hours actually) and the town wasn’t covered in snow yet. How close to we need to get to Antarctica before we see a snow covered town???
I decided we needed to remind ourselves of what we were doing and where we were… We’re in South America, at the bottom, we’ve travelled 30 hours to get here! Let’s LIKE it! Anyway, there are actually heaps of awesome National Parks here too! So I reminded Matt of that! And there’s meant to be this awesome glacier down here too!!
“Matt! What’s the awesome Glacier called that is down here, it’ll be good to do that at some point too.” Matt’s response… “That’s what we’re doing tomorrow…” (insert look that says “that’s what we just booked at the hostel… where have you been for the last few hours” here.) “oh I get it”…. Insert lots of laughter and repeats of the conversation here.
Here’s a tiny video we took of the Frozen Mud… which clearly had water under it on Lake Argentino!
