We decided to break up the 14 hour or more trip down to Puerto Montt by stopping in Chillan on the way down and we’re really glad that we did! A sister in the Vina Del Mar English congregation introduced us via email to Nadine Stone! Nadine and her family (Hubby Shannon, and their teenagers Hudson 17 and Jesse 14) moved to Chillan from the Sunshine Coast 2 and a half years ago!
They are absolutely lovely and really made our stay in Chillan wonderful!! We were so impressed with how well they are doing with their Spanish in the congregation! Hudson and Jesse did a year in the Spanish schools in Chillan and they are real pros with the language!!
We went to the markets in the main town center of Chillan and had a wonder around. They had a whole shed, about the size of the South Melbourne markets just sell MEAT… meat, meat and more meat. You WOULD NOT want to be a vegetarian around there!!! Every part of a pigs body was on display, there were hearts, tongues, livers… things we couldn’t identify… (DERRICK, we found the hugest ribs ever that we’d like you to try cooking… Real Flinstones style!! They wouldn’t fit in your oven. hahaha!)
We arrived at the Stone’s lovely home that eveing and were greeted by a gorgeous home cooked meal!! Vegies!!!!! Yum! We’ve found the Chillan food to be a bit bland without much variety… But Nadine’s good ole home cooking was nice and refreshing! Although, typically, someone wouldn’t eat their vegies!! Not pointing at anyone… Hudson. haha 🙂
We accompanied the family to the Spanish meeting that night which was lots of fun! I asked a few people what their name was and how they were… (IN SPANISH PEOPLE)!! It feels like such an accomplishment to say something so simple! Shannon did the talk on hospitality in the congregation. We actually had an IDEA of what was going on in the meeting… The format is universal so it’s not hard to follow along and is really good for the spanish practise.
The Spanish brothers and sisters were very warm and friendly and you could tell they love and really appreciate the effort the Stone’s have put in to going there and learning the language to help out. It was really encouraging and so cool to see!!
We stayed with the Stone’s for 2 nights, 2 lovely home cooked meals and 2.5 days of great company!! We have such a special brotherhood which is such a beautiful experience…
