Our time in Chillan came to and end and we decided to head down south. Originally we were going to Puerto Montt, but so many people have told us it’s not that great and there’s nothing there. Puerto Vars is much better! We took the locals advice and journeyed another 8-9 hours by bus down the main Chile highway to Puerto Vars.
This town is really picturesque. It’s a German style town on the edge of a massive lake that looks onto 2 volcanoes. We arrived at night so had no idea of the view until the next morning. We were also really lucky as it was a Blue Bird day here an we could see the gorgeous view of the area that surrounds us. The pictures will tell the story.
We hired a car today and drove around the area looking at national parks and the volcanoes. You can drive up Volcano Orsono and get a gorgeous view of the Andes all around. Tomorrow we’ll take the hire car down to Puerto Montt and surrounding areas and keep checking out the scenery.
Today’s Highlights:
1. The care hire guy told us if the cops pull us over just speak English and they’ll leave you alone. Funnily enough, we got pulled over by the Cambineros randomly, Matt says “No espanol, English” and the cop says… “Oh… ok…. pass on”. Sweet!! No fines for us here!!!! Hehe. Alot of the highways have no speed limit too which is cool. Don’t worry parents!! We’re driving safe! ๐
2. We found some great food!!!! We stopped in at a restaurant on the lake (people out the front were flagging passersby down like Lygon St but on the road to cars!!) so we went in and the lunch offer was All you can eat Buffet! The food was fantastic!! All kinds of meat on spits, stews, salads and meat everywhere! Fresh salmon from the area as well. Matt was so happy with all the meat! We haven’t had much red meat, and even the salads had meat in them!!! Needless to say we’re not eating dinner tonight… ๐
Catch you soon!
